Trade, Commerce and investment Cooperation

Trade and economic relations is a cornerstone of UK-Pakistan ties. Under its Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), the UK maintains zero-tariff access of pakistan’s exports post-Brexit, making it Pakistan’s largest European and third-largest individual export partner. Conversely, Pakistan ranks as the UK’s 52nd largest trading partner. UK-Pakistan total trade in goods and services reached 4.4 billion pounds by Q1 2023, makrking a 24.1% increase from the previous year. This includes 2.8 billion pounds in UK imports from Pakistan (up 33.8%) and 1.5 billion pounds in UK exports to Pakistan (up 9.4%).
   
Remittances from the UK to Pakistan totaled US$ 4.056 billion in FY 2022-23, showing a 10% decrease from FY 2021-22. Moreover, the UK, as Pakistan’s 2nd largest overseas investor, has invested over US$ 10 billion in Pakistan to date (including US$ 2.4 billion in last decade). UK’s FDI in Pakistan spans sectors like financial services, oil & gas, electricity, pharmaceuticals, publishing, chemicals and cement. 

Defence Cooperation

Defence ties are marked by institutional mechanisms like the National Security Dialogue and the Defense Cooperation Forum. Joint military exercises and training programs, including the annual training of Pakistan officers in UK, are pivotal in this cooperation, enhancing mutual understanding and capabiliteies.
