Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) - Washington D.C.

The Government of Pakistan issues Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) with 5- or 10-year validity. These passports feature digital security enhancements, including a barcode, printed personal data, and photo identification, in line with international standards. Passport can be applied online at  or in person at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington D.C.

Applicants 18 Years & Above

1. Personal appearance of the applicant(s) at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington D.C.
2. Original valid NICOP/CNIC (for married female applicants, husband name must be printed on the NICOP/CNIC)
3. Pakistani latest Passport, valid or expired
4. Legal Status ( Original US passport/Green card/valid visa)
5. Proof of Residence (Driver License/ State ID, Lease Agreement etc.)
6. Self-addressed prepaid return certified envelop (in case delivery of the passport)
7. A set of photocopies to above ii-v

 

Applicants Below 18 Years

In addition to the above A, following documents are also needed:

1. Minors of age 10 yrs. and above must present NICOPORJuvenile Card OR Revised Child Registration Certificate (CRC containing fingerprints and photograph) issued by NADRA.
2. Minors below of age of 10 yrs. must present NICOPOR Child Registration Certificate (CRC) issued by NADRA.
3. Presence of both parents along with valid CNIC/NICOP of both. In case of inability to appear of one parent, a consent form is required with valid NICOP/CNIC of both parents. (Download the Form here).
4. Guardian Certificate issued by Court (in case of divorce/separation of parents).

 

Lost Passport

• All as mentioned at A (i-vii)

Pakistan Government Employees

• All as mentioned at A (i-vii)
• NOC from the employee’s parent department

 

Processing Time

• Urgent: 2–3 weeks 
• Regular: 3–4 weeks 

 

Fee Structure

All fees are non-refundable to be paid through debit/credit cards. No other form of payment is acceptable.

Regular 05 years validity:

- $70 (normal)

- $150 (urgent)

Regular 10 years validity:

- $98 (normal)

- $225 (urgent)

First time Lost For 05 years validity:

- $140 (normal)

- $300 (urgent)

Second time Lost For 05 years validity:

- $280 (normal)

- $600 (urgent)

First time Lost For 10 years validity:

- $196 (normal)

- $450 (urgent)

Second time Lost For 10 years validity:

- $392 (normal)

- $900 (urgent)

Those referred by Online MRP Team, please bring fee adjustment letter received from MRP Online. Difference of fee will be charged.

 

Passport Delivery / Pick-up

• Delivery of passport can be delayed from prescribed time as passports are printed and dispatched from Pakistan.
• Original receipt is required for pick-up.
• An authority letter from applicant is required along with original receipt, if the applicant cannot pick up the passport.
• A self-addressed prepaid mail envelope (preferably USPS) is required for delivery by mail to applicant. The Embassy will not be responsible for any loss/delay.

 

Emergency Travel Document (ETD):

ETDs are issued only for verified Pakistani citizens for one-way travel to Pakistan.

Requirements: 

• Proof of identity (CNIC/NICOP) and verification by Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior & Narcotics Control.  
• In-person application submission citing the reason for travel. 
• Fee: USD $98 

 

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES:

• No modifications can be made to existing MRPs. Applicants must apply for a new passport if any changes are needed. 
• Date of Birth Policy: If your CNIC shows only the year (e.g., “1965”), the MRP will reflect your birthdate as 01/01/1965. 

 

Emergency Travel Document (ETD)

Is issued to the Pakistani nationals for travelling back to Pakistan only in extreme emergency cases when their Pakistani Passport is not available , lost OR they are not eligible for issuance of a new passport / renewal of passport.
The applicant has to submit the proof of genuine emergency for issuance of Emergency Travel Document.
